"DARK AGE perfectly reflect the signs of time and play the most modern Metal that you
can find these days – at least in Germany.“
Matthias Mineur – METAL HAMMER (March 2008)
After the success of their last album “Minus Exitus“, which has been voted “Album of
the Month“ in Germany’s METAL HAMMER in March 2008, DARK AGE return with
their new album “Acedia” in November 2009.
Because every band member participated in the song writing process and brought in
his ideas the band never showed such a musical complexity: The typical DARK AGE
trademarks – the unmistakable guitar melodies and catchy choruses – have remained,
but at the same time reams of fresh elements enrich the sound. The Industrialtouched
song “Zeitgeist (Ghost in a machine)” is a very good example here!
Experiments were always an important part in the song writing of DARK AGE, this
time the band tried an uncommon collaboration with GAMMA RAY singer Kai Hansen,
who did guest vocals for the song “Vampyrez”. The song will be included as
bonustrack on the Digipak-version of the new album.
"Acedia“ – which can be translated with “indolence of the soul” – is an album title,
which truly reflects today’s society. The title also perfectly sums up the lyrical concept
of singer and guitarist Eike Freese. For example the opening title “Kingdom
Nevercome” deals with a person who hunts after his dreams day by day but never
reaches them and finally breaks over hunting these dreams.
Without a doubt DARK AGE from Hamburg/Germany is one of the most unique bands
in the extreme Metal scene. It is not necessary for the band to catch someone’s eye
with a fake image. Far from that DARK AGE worked hard on their excellent reputation
with permanence and closeness to their fans during the last years. The band sets
course just by their music and lyrics.
“Minus Exitus”, released in 2008, convinced through and through. DARK AGE created
a nearly perfect balance between their typical catchy melodies, heaviness and
intentional used modern electronic elements. The band was aware that they created a
satisfying album, but they did no expect what would follow.
In addition to high ranking and very good reviews in various European Metal Mags
METAL HAMMER Germany voted “Minus Exitus” “Album of the Month” in their March
issue.
The quality of the album, the high press rankings and a respectful gig from DARK
AGE at Germany’s well-known SUMMER BREEZE Open Air Festival lead to a record
contract with the German label AFM RECORDS in the beginning of 2009. This deal
assures DARK AGE a comprehensive and worldwide publication with established
distributions for their sixth album “Acedia”. The production once again took part in the “Eikey Studio” of singer and guitarist Eike
Freese, who finally made himself a name in the scene after producing “Minus Exitus”.
Besides other respectful acts Eike Freese also produced the big Nuclear Blast signing
CALLEJON during the last year.
Like for “Minus Exitus” the artwork of the album was once again done by Niklas
Sundin (Cabin Fever Media/Dark Tranquillity) and sums up the harmonious overall
picture of “Acedia”.
To put it short:
DARK AGE are back with their new album “Acedia” – this is the sound of today’s
modern and heavy METAL! |
